వేసవి కాలం ఆరోగ్య చిట్కాలు - Summer Season Health Care Tips

Summer carries an extra of difficulties – skin, hair and health problems like sunstroke, and heat boils. Summer also sounds for a modification in food and other healthy active advises.

Tip 1: Heat Stroke
Heat stroke, a severe form of hyperthermia, happens when the human body absorbs the extra heat than it can dissolve. This is a serious condition and needs immediate medicinal care.
Home Therapy: It is important to reduce the temperature of the body, hence immerse yourself in ice if you have too or take a cold shower. You can avoid heat stroke by wearing loose and light clothes, drink water and do not exercise yourself during summer.

Tip 2: Heat Pains Symptoms
Muscle pains or spasms commonly occur in the abdomen, arms or legs. Spasms usually occur in coordination with tireless physical activity.
Home Therapy: Rest in a cool place. Drink clear juice or electrolyte-enriched drinks. Do not go back to tireless activity even after pains decrease since it may lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Tip 3: Heat Exhaustion Symptoms
Heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, fainting, muscle cramps, fainting.
Home Therapy: Rest. Have cool non-alcoholic beverages, a cool shower, bath or sponge bath. Use light clothing.

Tip 4: Dehydration Symptoms
Dry mouth and eyes, dry skin, a condition where sweating nearly stops, muscle pains, nausea, heart palpitations and light headedness.
Prevention: Re-hydration with water, clear broths, and any other water replacements that contain electrolytes, like Gatorade.
Home Therapy: Liquid replacement and control through diet and medication. Fever medication.

Tip 6: Skin care: Rosacea
Rosacea symptom is your skin will turn red due to over contact to the sun and the heat. The redness appears as the extra heat reasons the blood vessels to expand.
Home Therapy: Avoid direct sunlight. Always use a good sunscreen with SPF 30+

Tip 7: Skin care: Sun tan
Sun tan makes your skin darker which is a taboo for Indians.
Home Therapy: Avoid sun block to be repeated every two to three hours. Skin lightening treatment and therapies like rehydration helps.

Tip 8: Skin care: Prickly heat
Prickly heat affects everyone; it is a result of sweat and humidity that causes bacterial infection on the skin.
Home Therapy: Having cold showers, wearing loose clothes, putting talcum powder after a bath, applying calamine lotion on the rashes. Apply medicated talcum powder. Keep the area dry and clean.

Tip 9: Skin care: Foot Infection

Sweating and humidity can increase your chances of foot infection during summer.
Home Therapy: There are several anti-bacterial powders available in medical stores. And scrub your feet and the toes thoroughly to wash off the bacteria. But for dire skin ailment consult a dermatologist.

Tip 10: Skin care: Dandruff
Dandruff is aggravated during summer heat and sweat. Dandruff causes hair loss and is an unhygienic skin condition.

Tip 11: Summer diet
One must eat cold foods such as watermelon, yogurt, berries and the likes. Such foods are low in calories and additionally require very little energy for digestion. Usually such foods taste better when chilled and are therefore traditionally eaten that way. Naturally, eating such chilled low calorie foods feels good in the summer months.

Tip 12: Summer diet
Importance of including a variety of foods in your diet. All essential nutrients are required in the summer months, particularly the minerals that are lost in the sweat. It is possible to replenish these micro- nutrients only if the diet includes varied food groups such as fruits, vegetables, milk, cereals, meat, pulse and fats.

Tip 13: Summer diet
Importance of choosing fats carefully. In the summer months, a number of people who want to lose weight switch to a zero fat diet. This is not a healthy trend. The essential fats that the body needs are available through diet alone.  It is therefore sensible to limit the fat intake to just the essential requirement but to avoid any extras.

Tip 14: Summer diet
Drinking very chilled liquids is not advisable. Food consumed at extreme temperatures, whether hot or cold, is not appropriate for the body. The body has to work extra in order to get the temperature close to the body temperature. Drinking warm or cool (as opposed to hot and cold) liquids are best suited for the body.

Tip 15: Summer diet
Maintain good food-hygiene levels. Many dangerous bacteria and viruses thrive in the summer months as the temperature is conducive for their growth. The bad bugs usually enter the body through food and water. This is why maintaining food hygiene is crucial in this season.

Eric Lefkofsky Wants To Use Gene Sequencing In Cancer Treatments

Medical science has made great accomplishments in treating children with cancer. However, medical practitioners say that more research is needed. According to the latest statistics, more than 14,600 children aged 19 and younger were diagnosed with a form of pediatric cancer and 1,850 of these kids, according to the American Cancer Society, will die. ACS based their prognostics on the data compiled by the Alliance for Childhood Cancer. Thankfully, significant progress has been made in developing effective treatments for various types of pediatric cancers, according to Katherine Sharpe of the ACS. That means the chances of success in treating children with cancer will increase even more in the coming years.
Sharpe, ACS Senior Vice President, also stated that when they examined the situation regarding pediatric cancer treatments, they found out that more research is required to ensure that progress will continue. She also disclosed some encouraging facts about the survival rate of children that have undergone different kinds of cancer treatments. Sharpe revealed that the survival rate for children found with cancer during the years between 1975 and 1979 rose from 64 percent to 84 percent compared to the years between 2005 and 2011. Nevertheless, there is a great disparity in the children’s survival rate. One example is that of one type of brain cancer called diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma. DIPG has nearly a zero five-year survival rate, says Sharpe. Therefore, there really is a need for more research in cancer treatment.

Here is where Eric Lefkofsky and his Tempus Labs can come in. Lefkofsky is the founder and CEO of Tempus Labs which is a company that seeks to improve the ways by which cancer patients are diagnosed. The basic approach of Tempus Labs is to leverage extensive data analytics to facilitate cancer treatments. This company wants to take advantage of the latest sequencing of the human genome and the most advanced development in science and technology in this particular medical field. In other words, this company is encouraging data to infiltrate cancer treatment and thereby reveal the vast amount of data that comes from a huge medical system.
Lefkofsky is trying to gather all the data that he can get from his partners in the leading academic institutions as well as in the entire NCI-designated cancer centers around the country. He intends to use this massive information to diagnose cancer patients correctly. In other words, his main goal is to customize or personalize the treatment of cancer according to the condition and needs of the patient. He believes that in this way, he can develop the most effective cancer treatment and therapy.
Lefkofsky says that a great volume of data needs to be accessible to doctors. In terms of cancer treatments, they can still learn many things from this massive volume of information. It is precisely for this reason that he launched Tempus Labs so that all this massive data can be accessed by doctors who want to personalize treatments of their cancer patients. The primary goal of Tempus Labs is to introduce ‘personalized’ or customized cancer treatments. Lefkofsky want to do it through gene-sequencing and data analysis.

Aside from being the owner of Tempus Labs, Lefkofsky is also a philanthropist. He and his wife established the Lefkofsky Family Foundation which is funding high-impact projects in art and culture, basic human rights, education and medicine.
