Tenali's dying mother wished for golden mangoes to be donated to Brahmins after her death. Having little money, Tenali invited ten Brahmins and offered real mangoes coated in turmeric — calling them "golden mangoes." When the Brahmins protested, Tenali cleverly pointed out: if the soul of the departed truly receives these offerings, then both real gold and turmeric-coated mangoes serve the same purpose. If the Brahmins insisted on real gold, they were only thinking of themselves — not the departed soul. The Brahmins were left speechless by his sharp logic, and the King praised Tenali's wisdom.

Tenali declared: "Truth has revealed itself. The bond between a mother and child cannot be faked. Nature has given us the verdict." But Tenali pointed out what he had actually found: a healthier body from the exercise, fertile soil that now bloomed with flowers, and proof that hard work itself is the real treasure. The scholar realised that knowledge without effort is worthless, and began contributing meaningfully to the kingdom.
